HERE'S MY HEART...

"You will bring forth a son, and you will call His name J-E-S-U-S." William Shakespeare once said, "There is nothing in a name. A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet." Well, I hate to challenge Mr. Shakespeare, but I must respectfully disagree.

Two thousand years ago, in the obscure little village of Bethlehem, a baby was born. He was given the name "Jesus", which means "Jehovah is salvation". And, why was He given THAT name? Well, the angel answered that question, too. "His name will be Jesus", the angel said, "because He will save his people from their sin". Oh yes, there IS something about that name.

In a few days, we will celebrate Christmas. It is my favorite time of the year. Frankly, I enjoy everything about Christmas. I enjoy the music and the majesty. I enjoy the looks of wonder on the faces of children. I even enjoy the "hustle and bustle". I enjoy the activities at the church, the decorations, and the sense that, if even for a few moments, there really is, peace on earth, good will to men".

But, let's never forget, Christmas is a BIRTHDAY celebration. It is the birthday of the "King of Kings" and "Lord of Lords". And, the question is, has Jesus made a difference in your life? Will He make a difference in your life this year? Will your Christmas celebration be another "ho-hum" or will it be a "hallelujah"? It can be a time of spiritual renewal, a time of "beginning again". Remember, however, that without Jesus, there can be no Christmas. It's all about Him.

Nothing in a name, huh, Mr. Shakespeare? On this one, I think you were wrong. I contend there IS something in a name, especially when that name is J-E-S-U-S.

God bless you. Merry Christmas.
