HERE'S MY HEART...

The month of December usually means one thing for Christians all around the world. It's time for Christmas, the celebration of the birthday of Jesus. It is the one time of the year when, it seems (at least), that the world is a little calmer, a little more peaceful, and that people are a little kinder, and somewhat more compassionate. And, why shouldn't it be? After all, we are celebrating the birthday, the coming into the world, of the "Prince of Peace", the Son of God. So, "Come, Let Us Adore Him, Christ the Lord".

Some of my fondest memories are of the Christmases in my past. I grew up in simple surroundings in rural north Alabama. We did not have very much, but we had plenty. I am certain my eyes sparkled as a child as I anticipated Christmas morning. I am much older now, of course, but I want to think my eyes still sparkle as I get ready for Christmas. Maybe now, however, it is merely the reflection of the sparkle in the eyes of Jacob, Baylee, Collin, Kaylee, and (by next year) Mackenzie. Our precious grandchildren have brought so much joy into my life, and they have taught me quite a lot about Christmas and it's truest meaning.

Have you been thinking about Christmas and it's TRUEST meaning? I overheard an employee at a large Lenoir City department store the other night. Speaking to another employee, she said, "I can't wait until February. I am so 'OVER' Christmas!" I thought, how sad it must be, that the birthday of Jesus could mean so little to so many. And yet, when He is left out, it might as well be February! In your busyness over the next few days, don't let CHRISTmas pass you by. See it in the manger scenes and the laughter and excitement of the children. Hear it in the carols, choruses, and songs of the season. Experience it as you worship with the family of God each Sunday. I believe it will make a difference.

God bless you. Anita and I, our church staff and their spouses, and our entire church family at Dixie Lee Baptist Church wish for you and your family a VERY, VERY, VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Jim Clayton, Pastor
