Heres My Heart...
My
dear friend, Dr. Bruce Chesser, is the Senior
Pastor of FBC Geyer Springs, in Little Rock,
Arkansas. With permission, I am sharing a
recent article appearing in the weekly newsletter
of that church.
I met an
interesting young man in the Welcome Center
yesterday. I wont go into all the details
that brought him to Little Rock, but it was
a fascinating story. What really intrigued
me was that he found our church on the internet
and wanted to worship with us. He was actually
staying in North Little Rock and was somewhat
stranded. He said he would be here for a couple
of weeks. He was so impressed by what he learned
about our church that he decided he wanted
to attend. You know how he got here? He WALKED
from North Little Rock! It took him over three
hours. He attended a Sunday School class at
9:30 and then worshipped with us at 11:00.
One of our generous members not only offered
to give him a ride back to North Little Rock,
but he and his wife also took him out for
lunch.
As I was
thinking about this fellow later in the afternoon,
I couldnt help but ask myself, What
would it take to get me to WALK THREE HOURS
to a church? I wonder how many churches
he passed on his way? I wonder how many steeples
he saw off in the distance or how many church
bells he heard ringing?
Dr. Chesser closed
the article by talking about how special Geyer
Springs FBC is, and challenged people to invite
someone to come with them the following Sunday.
But, the article really made me think about
DLBC. Would we walk three hours to get here?
How about thirty minutes? How about three
minutes? Do we have something special to offer
people? Are WE (you and me) inviting anybody
to come with us, to OUR Sunday School
class, or to OUR worship?
Something to
think about isnt it?
